gift a boost to Native American studies
Students
in the Native American Studies program at Sacramento State
will be the beneficiaries of a $250,000 gift from the Rumsey
Community Fund. The Fund is the philanthropic arm of the
Rumsey Band of Wintun Indians, operators of Cache Creek Indian
Bingo and Casino.

Book
project takes global look at history of art
Art
history professor Elaine O’Brien seldom sees limits.
She, along with a dedicated group of art students, is responsible
for bringing renowned artists and art experts to campus each
semester for lectures and symposiums. O’Brien also helped
revive the Art History major at Sacramento State last fall,
a program that was lost more than a decade ago to budget cuts.

enters partnership to involve parents in education
The
California State University and the Parent Institute for Quality
Education (PIQE) have announced a partnership to strengthen
parent involvement in the education of elementary and middle
school students to improve children’s preparation for
higher education.

Crash to speak at Sacramento State
Bobby Moresco, screenwriter and producer of Crash, the
provocative film nominated for four Academy Awards including best
picture and original screenplay, will speak at 7:30 p.m. on Monday,
Feb. 13 at Sacramento State in the University Union Ballroom.

Women's
tennis picked to finish first
The Sacramento State women’s tennis team has been picked to
finish first in the Big Sky Conference Preseason coaches poll, receiving
six first-place votes (coaches cannot vote for their own team).
Sacramento State, coached by Bill Campbell, is currently ranked
40th in the FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings, led by three-time league
MVP Margarita Karnaukhova.
