Spotlight
Samantha
Hilber, Biological Sciences student, was presented
the ACWA 2005 Clair A. Hill Water Agency Award for Excellence
during a Nov. 14 ceremony at the Association for California
Water Agencies, Carmichael Water District's office.
Recognition
Ronald Richardson has been appointed Associate Vice
President for Facilities Services. The appointment was effective
Dec. 5. Richardson
had served in the position as interim associate vice president
for facilities management since October 2004. He has held
several positions on campus, beginning as a facility planner
in 1986. He became the manager of facilities planning in 1991,
director of facilities planning, design and Development in
2001, and to interim associate vice president in 2004. Richardson
holds a bachelor's degree in industrial arts with a minor
in economics from CSU Chico.
Alfredo Orozco, University Transportation
and Parking Services, was awarded an “Oscar” by the Sacramento
Transportation Management Association at their annual meeting
in December. The award was in recognition of Orozco's meritorious
efforts to encourage the campus community to use alternate
forms of transportation through the University's Commute Choices
Campaign.
Cyndra Krogen, Health Education, received
the third annual Henry W. DeJong Award from the BACCHUS &
GAMMA Peer Education Network. The award is presented to a
college health professional for “vision and leadership in
college tobacco control.”
Scholarship
Robert
G. Mogull, Business Statistics Emeritus, had a letter
titled “Measures of Poverty” published in the Sacramento
Bee on Sept. 15. His study titled “Hispanic-American
Poverty” was published in the summer 2005 issue of the Journal
of Applied Business Research. And his study “State Level
Poverty: The Case of New York” was published in the fall 2005
issue of the Journal of Applied Business Research.
He also had several studies accepted for publication: the
“Standard Error of the Mean: A Better Presentation” by The
Mathematics Teacher; “Metropolitan Poverty: The Case
of Chicago” by the Journal of Socio-Economics, and
“Urban Impact on Statewide Statistics: An Example from New
York Poverty” by the Journal of Business and Economic
Studies.
Arthur Williamson, History, had his
co-edited book Shaping the Stuart World, 1603-1714: The
Atlantic Connection published. Williamson's essay in
the volume has the title, "Education, Culture, and the
Scottish Civic Tradition."
Celeste
Roseberry-McKibbin, Speech Pathology and Audiology,
presented “Nonbiased Assessment Strategies for Use with Bilingual
Children with Language Disorders” to the Vancouver School
District in November. She presented “Service Delivery to Language-impaired
Children from Low-income Backgrounds: Assessment and Intervention
Considerations” to the College of Public Service at Saint
Louis University in St. Louis in October. She presented “Nonbiased
Assessment of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Children”
and “Intervention Strategies for Culturally and Linguistically
Diverse Children” to Albuquerque Public Schools in Albuquerque
in September.

Lindy
Valdez, Kinesiology and Health Science, was quoted
in the Jan. 22 Sacramento Bee in an article entitled
"Game's On" about the new sport of speedminton.
Valdez was also quoted in the Nov. 22 Sacramento Bee
on the results of the statewide physical fitness tests for
public school students.
Robert
G. Mogull, Business Statistics Emeritus, was quoted
in stories that ran on KFBK radio, in the Sacramento Bee
and Dan Walters' column in the Bee, and in
the Stockton Record and the Natomas Journal,
and was interviewed by the Planning Commission for the City
of Long Beach, on his studies on estimates and projections
of poverty.
Joseph Palermo, History, wrote a guest
column in the Nov. 18 San Jose Mercury News titled, "What
would Robert Kennedy say about 2005?" which compared
the state of the union during the Vietnam War to the current
war in Iraq.
Joe
Ramos, Intercollegiate Athletics, was quoted in the
Nov. 20 Sacramento Bee on how to avoid injuries while
exercising outdoors on cold winter days.
Alexandre Kimenyi, Linguistics,
had his research on clichés featured
in the Nov. 2 West
Sacramento Press and in the Nov. 6 Dixon Tribune.
Chevelle
Newsome, Graduate Studies, was featured in the Oct.
27 Sacramento Observer for her new role as Special
Assistant to the President.
Matthew Altier, University Enterprises,
was quoted in the Oct. 30 Santa Cruz Sentinel on
the university's relationship with the surrounding city.
Ayad al-Qazzaz, Sociology, was quoted
in the Oct. 28 San Francisco Jewish News Weekly about
a controversy involving the religious content in San Francisco
public school textbooks.

in: the Nov. 7 Sacramento Bee on opportunities for
potential political candidates to receive publicity while
supporting or opposing propositions during the Special Election;
in the Nov. 13 Sacramento Bee on voters perception

comparing Gov. Schwarzenegger to former California politicians
Hiram Johnson and Denis Kearney; the Nov. 21 Oakland Tribune
