The semester is just underway, but as any employer will tell you, it’s never too early to think about getting a job.
The University Career Center will hold its annual spring career fair, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 20 in the University Union Ballroom. The fair is primarily for students seeking entry level, full-time positions but part-time jobs, internships and co-ops may be available.
Other career fairs in the spring include an engineering fair sponsored by the College of Engineering and Computer Science, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday, March 10; a government agency fair, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 19; and an educator fair, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday, March 27. All fairs are in the University Union Ballroom.
The on-campus recruitment program runs March 10 to May 9 in Lassen Hall 2000. The program assists graduating seniors and alumni in interviewing with corporate, government and non-profit agencies requiring a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
Not ready to interview for jobs yet? The Career Center will hold mock interview workshops 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27 and Thursday, Feb. 28 in Lassen Hall 2000.
“Students can practice their interviewing skills with a professional recruiter who will provide valuable feedback and tips so students can become more comfortable with the interview process when the time comes,” says Michelle Gorospe, career center event specialist.
Register for the workshop by contacting the Career Center at 278-6231.
The Center will also hold a resume makeover seminar from noon to 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 5 in the University Union Ballroom. Local employers will be on hand to offer tips on building a successful resume, Gorospe says. No reservations are required.
Finally, the Center will hold an interviewing etiquette dinner from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, April 10 in the University Union Restaurant. “Most students probably don’t know this, but many interviews are conducted over lunch or dinner,” says Gorospe. “This activity will teach them how to make small talk, network and interview while dining.”
