Rob
Wassmer, Public Policy and Administration, had his
article on "The Influence of Local Urban Containment
Policies and Statewide Growth Management on the Size of United
States Urban Areas" published in the February 2006 edition
of the Journal of Regional Science.
Will
H. Corral, Foreign Languages, had his co-authored
book, Theory’s Empire, chosen among the Books
of the Year 2005 by The Times (London) Literary
Supplement. It has been reviewed enthusiastically in
The Wall Street Journal and National Review,
among other journals. Its 50 contributors, from a variety
of disciplines, in the humanities include John Searle, Frederick
Crews, Todd Gitlin, Kwame Anthony Appiah, Russell Jacoby,
Noam Chomsky, Frank Kermode, Marjorie Perloff, Susan Hack
and Tzvetan Todorov.
Stan
Oden, Government, has an essay in the new book Hurricane
Katrina: Response and Responsibilities. His essay is
entitled, "Hurricane Katrina: Recipe for More Disaster
or Hopeful Reconstruction?" Other contributors include
trumpet legend Wynton Marsalis. Copies are available at the
Hornet Bookstore.
Terry
Cataline, University Outreach, Admissions and Records,
presented training sessions on adapting electronic commerce
transcript exchange methods, including both post-secondary
and secondary schools, to the CSU, UC and California Community
Colleges operations on Jan. 19. Attendees included visitors
from the joint statewide K-12 and University of California
CSIS/ELC project. Obtaining student transcripts more efficiently
is a component of CSU plans to improve admissions and academic
advising, for both transfer students and first-time freshmen.
Peak
Adventures Bike Shop mechanics were part of the TeamWorx
dream building program, building bikes in Las Vegas, Dallas
and Orlando, Fla. for families in need. TeamWorx is a corporate
team building company and Peak Adventures Bike Shop mechanics
prepped the bikes then checked them over after they had been
assembled by the corporate participants. The Dallas TeamWorx
event donated 20 bikes to victims of Hurricane Katrina.

The
Sacramento State Aquatic Center was identified
as an ideal place for a river experience in the January/February
issue of Sky West Magazine. The magazine is distributed
to passengers on United Express and Delta Connection airline
flights.
Tony
Platt, Social Work, had his book E. Franklin
Frazier Reconsidered selected as the basis for a Black
History Month column by Frederick Rasmussen, "City-Born
Sociologist Was Early Authority on Black Life in U.S.,"
in the Baltimore Sun on Feb 4.
Dave
Zuckerman, Communication Studies, was featured in
a live interview segment on the Feb. 7 KCRA Channel 3 evening
news about Denmark’s editorial cartoon controversy.
