Event
examines border issues
Sacramento-based photographer and art educator Francisco Dominguez
will present a slide presentation entitled, "The U.S./Mexico
Border—An Inside Look from Both Sides" from noon-2
p.m., Thursday, Feb. 16 in the University Union Hinde Auditorium.
Dominguez has made numerous trips to both sides of the border
recording the experiences undocumented immigrants. He has
participated in many exhibitions in California, including
in "Photographic Memory and Other Shots in the Dark"
at Galería de la Raza. His work has been supported
by the California Arts Council.
The event is co-sponsored by the Association of Mexican American
Educators/Latino Educators Association, the Serna Center and
the Cross Cultural Resource Center.

Valentine’s
is popping
During the month of February, a Valentine's Day exhibit of
pop-up books, pop-up cards, and vintage valentines is on display
in Special Collections and University Archives in the University
Library. The items are from the private collections of Maria
Winkler, Art, and Laura Archbold, Library. The exhibit is
open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
and noon-8 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Book-signing
and talk
The Serna Center will present a reception, lecture and book-signing
in honor of Social Work professors Krishna Guadalupe and Doman
Lum and their book Diversity and Transcendence on
Wednesday, Feb. 15. A reception will be held from 1-1:30 p.m.
in the University Union Lobby Suite followed by the lecture
and book-signing from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in the University Union
Hinde Auditorium.

Time
management training
Academic Advising is offering a series of study skills/time
management workshops. Topics to be covered include student
learning styles, tips on reading a textbook, note-taking techniques,
and basic time management tips.
Workshops
are open to all students and registration is not necessary.
Each workshop covers the same material. A full schedule is

Scholarships for student journalists
The Asian American Journalists Association is offering scholarships
to outstanding college students or incoming college students
who are interested in journalism. Awards range from $1,000
to $5,000. In addition, the Sacramento chapter provides scholarships
of up to $1,000 to students originally from the Sacramento
region or who are attending school in the area.
Students are selected based on: commitment to the field of
journalism; sensitivity to Asian American and Pacific Islander
issues; journalistic ability; scholastic ability; and financial
need.
