Scholarship

Susan Sherry and David Booher, Center for Collaborative Policy, were hosted by Kumamoto University in Japan as Visiting Scholars in January. They gave keynote presentations at a conference on Civic Engagement and Dispute Resolution and participated in meetings and workshops with students, faculty, and stakeholders

An interview with Nancy Kalish, Psychology, about her research of rekindled romances, appeared as part of an article on lost love in The Globe and Mail, Canada's number one newspaper, on Feb. 12. The article coincided with the showing of a new Canadian Broadcasting Company documentary, Love, Interrupted in which Kalish was the featured expert. It was shown nationally on Feb. 12 and 13 in Canada. Quotes from Kalish’s interview also appeared Feb. 12 in the Styles section of The New York Times; three newspapers in Indiana; and one in Missouri. She also will be interviewed on a national radio program, The Nancy O'Reilly Show at the end of February.

Tim Hodson, Center for California Studies, was quoted in The Sacramento Bee on Jan. 10 regarding the Governor taking funds from various departments to keep the state out of a complete bankruptcy.

Todd Molaccio, Sociology, was interviewed on KTXL-FOX on Jan. 5 regarding dating and social expectations in the book and new movie He’s Just Not That into You.

Barbara O’Connor, Communication Studies, was interviewed on KXJZ-FM National Public Radio regarding the Governor’s state of the state speech, was quoted in the San Francisco Chronicle on Jan. 7 about the incident between Leon Panetta and Dianne Feinstein, the San Francisco Chronicle on Jan. 1 about the Governor’s push on the 2009 budget and the San Francisco Chronicle on Jan. 5 about Californians feeling that former president Bush didn’t carry the state well enough.

Suzanne O’Keefe, Economics, was interviewed on KCRA-NBC on Dec. 30 regarding job-loss in the Sacramento region and was quoted in the Woodland Hills Daily News on Jan. 2 about the differences between a layoff and a buyout.

David Swim, Criminal Justice, was quoted in The Sacramento Bee on Jan. 8 regarding officers traditionally not firing their weapons in the line of duty throughout a career.

Sanjay Varshney, Dean of the College of Business Administration, was interviewed on KFBK-AM-FOX on Jan. 14 regarding the job outlook in the Sacramento area.

Robert Waste, Public Policy, was interviewed on KXJZ-FM National Public Radio on Jan. 6 regarding the economic future for Californians.
