On the Job with the Sacramento State Ticket office
The Bulletin talked with manager Scott Gephart and assistant supervisor Katie Johnson of the Sacramento State Ticket office.
What do people think you do?
For whatever reason, we get calls from everybody under the sun, whether it’s taking the C-BEST test or being connected to a certain department. Walk ups think we can issue parking passes or, if they got a parking ticket, they should come here.
What do you really do?
We sell tickets for events on campus and through Tickets.com. There are a few regional music clubs that put on events that we cover, and we sell tickets for events at Memorial Auditorium and the Giants and A’s. Also, when someone rents a venue on campus for an event, we cover the ticket sales.
Describe your office?
We are on the first floor of the Union outside Burger King. It's small, it’s cozy and it’s covered in posters from past seasons' events. There are two staff members and four student assistants. The office is kind of hidden and we’re kind of out of the way. There aren’t any arrows pointing “come here,” but for the most part, people find us when they need us.
What surprises people?
That the ticket office is here.
What is your biggest challenge?
Reining things in to make the office more efficient and finding ways we can reach more people. We want to do more marketing and hopefully make it a little more profitable; get more people in the seats and get the student events seen. We want to get the word out. Our ultimate goal is to have the theater do a 10-day run of something and have it sold out for all 10 days.
What do you get asked the most? Other than looking for specific tickets, the parking thing. It’s so funny how everyone just assumes we have something to do with parking.
