Associate dean of the College of Education named
The College of Education will have a new member when Kathy Norman joins the staff as associate dean in March.
She replaces Pia Wong who has returned to the Bilingual Multicultural Education Department as a professor. Norman is currently a professor and program coordinator of the Integrated Teacher Credential Program at California State University, San Marcos’s College of Education.
Norman has a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Kansas, and her expertise is science education and she has done work with public school teachers on science instruction for marginalized populations, particularly students with disabilities.
She was awarded the Outstanding University Science Educator in San Diego County in 1999, and in 2009, she received CSU San Marcos’ highest honor, the Harry E. Brakebill Distinguished Professor Award.
Norman is a graduate of the Higher Education Resource Service Summer Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration, is a member of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education Board of Examiners and is former president of the Association for Science Teacher Education.
