Scholarship

Tom Knutson, Communication Studies, spent the semester break in Thailand doing research at Bangkok University and teaching at Ramkhamhaeng University. While in Thailand, Knutson visited the five Sacramento State students currently serving as English language assistants at the Chitralada Royal Palace School. In light of the performance of the Sacramento State students, Chitralada officials have requested a fifth group to serve during the 2010-11 academic year. Students receive round-trip airfare, accommodations and a monthly stipend during their stay in Bangkok. Application procedures for the next group will be announced later this year.

Kim Bancroft, Teacher Education, published an essay called “To Have and to Have Not: The Socioeconomics of Charter Schools” in the January 2009 issue of Education and Urban Society.

Caio Miguel, Psychology, had the manuscript “Publication trends in The Analysis of Verbal Behavior: 1999-2008,” co-authored with his graduate students, Allyne Marcon-Dawson and Sara Vicars, accepted for publication in The Analysis of Verbal Behavior.

Lisa Beutler, Center for Collaborative Policy, was a featured speaker at the University of Southern California (USC) Capitol Career Day, Friday, Feb. 6.  The USC School of Public Policy, Planning, and Development hosts the annual day at the Capitol to expose students to careers in public policy. Beutler participated in a panel discussing the executive branch. Other presenters included two state agency directors, the governor’s legislative director, an agency assistant secretary and the former head of Medi-Cal.

Bill Leach, Public Policy and Administration and Center for Collaborative Policy, was quoted Jan. 28 in The Post (Athens, Ohio) for a story about shared governance among faculty and administrators at Ohio University.

Wesley Hussey, Government, was quoted in “The State Worker: Furloughs boost governor's muscle at bargaining table” which was published in the Sacramento Bee on Feb. 12.
