Six professors
from the Department of Physical Therapy have had their research accepted for
presentation at The World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT) Congress,
in Vancouver, B.C.:
Michael McKeough will present “Student attitudes and
perceptions about computer-based neuroanatomy learning modules: factors and
implications for successful computer based instruction within clinical education.”
Clare Lewis will present “Motion analysis of e3™
fitness grips [trademark] used when running.”
Brad Stockert will present “Concurrent validity of the
star excursion balance test in a geriatric population” and “Test-retest
reliability of the star excursion balance test in a geriatric population.”
Rafael Escamilla, will present “Training and rehabilitation
implications for the trunk and extremities while performing Swiss ball and conventional
exercises: an electromyographic analysis.”
Susan McGinty, will present “A study of Limited English
Proficiency (LEP) in patients served by physical therapy practices in northern
California.”
Edward Barakatt will present “An exploration of Maitland’s
construct of low back pain irritability.”
Gale Justin, Philosophy, gave an invited reply to a paper by
Charles Griswold, Boston University, on "Plato and Forgiveness as a Virtue"
at the 12th Annual Arizona Colloquium in Ancient Philosophy, University of Arizona,
Feb. 16 – 18.
Wendy Matlock,
English, presented "Gender and Governance in The Thrush and the Nightingale,"
at the 13th Annual Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies Conference
on "Masculinities and Femininities in the Middle Ages and Renaissance,"
Feb. 17.

State professors presented papers at the 2nd Annual Conference on Community-Based
Teaching & Research, Feb. 23-24 in San Jose, CA:
Greg Kim-Ju, Psychology, Julia Figueroa, Ethnic Studies,
Greg Mark, Ethnic Studies, Erin Jensen and
Anya Marquez presented "Working with Diverse Communities:
Developing Cultural Competency for University Service-Learners: Utilizing an
Ethnic Studies Service-Learning Model."
Ernest
Cowles, Institute for Social Research, presented "Partnership
for community-based participatory research (CBPR) to reduce racial and ethnic
disparities in cancer prevention and control in our region."
Ana Garcia-Nevare and Susan Gomez, Child Development
Programs, presented "The Impact of Service Learning Placement Type on Pre-service
Teachers’ Career Goal Exploration and Commitment to Working with Diverse
Learners."
Jean Gonsier-Gerdin,
Psychology, presented "Developing Advocates and Leaders through Service-Learning
in Pre-Service and In-Service Special Education Programs."
