Sac State honored ‘with distinction’
Sacramento State has been named to the 2009 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll with Distinction by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
The selection is recognition from the highest levels of the federal government of commitment to service and civic engagement, says Sheila Macias, director of Sacramento State’s Community Engagement Center.
More than 700 universities nationwide were named to the Honor Roll. Sacramento State was one of 115 universities and colleges to earn the “with distinction” designation based on its exemplary community projects, the percentage of students and number of service hours, and the high number of students in academic service.
“To be named to the roll ‘with distinction’ in 2009 just one year after receiving an honorable mention is a reflection of the growth and commitment to community engagement at Sac State,” Macias says.
Contributing to this year’s application were the Community Engagement Center, Project PLAY (Kinesiology and Health Science), Student Activities (Student Affairs), College Assistant Migrant Program (CAMP), Urban Education Teaching Center (Education), and the 65th Street Corridor (Ethnic Studies).
