30 years of literature, art and culture
Canto series, by Luis Gonzalez, circa 1980s
To celebrate the donation of the La Raza Galeria Posada archives and poster collection to Sacramento State, an exhibit illustrating the history of La Raza Galeria Posada will be on display in the University Library Gallery from March 14 through April 19. An opening reception will be held Friday, March 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Library Gallery. Admission is free.
The exhibit, Celebrating 30 years of Literature, Art y Culture, will present the history of the organization from its inception as the La Raza Bookstore in the 1970s, through its development into a broad-based community arts and cultural resource and a reflection of the Chicano socio-political movement of the era.
The exhibit will showcase selections from the 400 screenprints and offset posters representing a wide range of artists and arts organizations from the 1970s into the present decade. Throughout the month the exhibit will be on display, programs will include a documentary film, poetry readings and a panel discussion featuring artists who have been curators of exhibitions at La Raza Galleria Posada over the years.
