Alternative Break for Sacramento State

For some students, spring break is a time to vacation on the beach. For others, it’s a time to give back to the community. Some Sacramento State students will be doing the latter as they participate in Alternative Break, volunteering at the Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services and the Habitat for Humanity March 30 through April 3. The program is a part of the University's Community Engagement Center.

“Alternative Break is a great opportunity to network with strong community-based organizations, develop personal and professional skills and connect with the campus and local community,” says Brendan McVeigh, community partnerships coordinator.

Sacramento State students interested in volunteering should contact the center at cecenter@csus.edu.

The Community Engagement Center's Alternative Break program began in 2007 and operates during spring and winter breaks. During the 2008 winter break, 44 students from 13 majors volunteered and weathered cold and rain while working in the community.

For more information on the Alternative Break program, visit www.csus.edu/cec/altbreak/ or contact McVeigh at (916) 278-4610.
