Preview room gives Recreation and Wellness Center a running start
The new preview room in the University Union allows the campus community to try equipment that may be in used the new Recreation and Wellness Center.
The new Recreation and Wellness Center is under construction and a year from being opened, but the campus community can get a look at equipment that may be in the Center and get in a free workout.
A preview room has been set up in the University Union to give students, staff and faculty a glimpse of what the new Center will offer. The room, across from Round Table Pizza, is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays.
The room is a fully-functional display of fitness equipment students, staff and faculty can expect in the completed Center, according to Mirjana Gavric, director of the Recreation and Wellness Center. “We want the people to get an idea of how much this center will improve the campus,” she says.
Equipment will be switched out every 40 days, says Ken Morton, associate director of the Center. “We want to show people all of the equipment that will be available to them, including weights, stationary bikes, elliptical machines and more.”
Currently, there are four treadmills in the room, and each has a small monitor with cable television and a digital display with programmable speeds and elevations. Two have iPod connection ports. The machines are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
After working out, students, staff and faculty can fill out a computer survey regarding the preview room. The campus community can also receive information on registration for the Center when it opens in September 2010.
