Serge Lee, Social Work, published, “The self-rated social well-being of Hmong college students in Northern California,” in the Hmong Studies Journal.
Francis Yuen, Social Work, co-authored a study concerning violence against women for the governor’s Office of Emergency Services and helped edit, “Disability and social work education: Practice and Policy Issues.” Yuen also presented, “Beyond Cultural Adjustment and resettlement for Hmong Americans: Issues and Challenges,” at Hong Kong City University.
Joyce Dibble, Teacher Education, presented a study on the efficacy of web-based content management system for school districts before the Society for Information Technology & Teacher Education International Conference in Las Vegas.
John Cowan, Teacher Education, made a presentation at the Las Vegas conference on the growing gap between the knowledge of administrators, teachers and their students regarding the use of technology.
Janice Gagerman, Social Work, has been providing clinical consultation to Glenn County Child Protective Service Workers since September.
David Nylund, Social Work, presented a workshop on "Addressing Gender and Power Issues in Family Therapy" at the GCK Institute in Gothenburg, Sweden. He also started a counseling program at the Sacramento Gay & Lesbian Center.
David J. Leon, Ethnic Studies, presented a PowerPoint lecture, “Latinos in Higher Education: Widening the Pipeline of Top Administrative Positions,” for the Third Annual American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education in Miami.
The following Kinesiology and Health Science faculty members gave presentations at the California Association for Health and Physical Education Recreation and Dance State Conference in Riverside: Julie Kuehl-Kitchen, R. Reese, H. Deckard, Joan Neide, Daryl Parker, Lindy Valdez, Craig Tacla, Harry Theodorides, Michael Wright and Patty Woodward.
Recognition
Stephen Garcia, Administration and Business Affairs, was awarded the top prize in the CSU system for Quality Improvement for his achievements in strategic planning in conjunction with Destination 2010. He was also cited for his long-term leadership in QI programs at Sacramento State and CSU San Marcos.
Lynn Cooper, Social Work, was elected chair of the Fundraising Committee for East Bay Community Mediation.
Edward Lewis, Social Work, is chair of the African American Health Summit in Sacramento. He wrote the grant for a five-year pilot program for the summit.
Student Spotlight
Jessica Atwood, Kinesiology and Health Science, was awarded the John F. Kennedy Memorial Scholarship by the California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. She has also been nominated for a Health and Human Service Dean’s award.
