Sandra
Perez, Center for California Studies, has been selected as one of 22
women nationwide to participate in the National Hispana Leadership Institute's
2006 Executive Leadership Program. The Institute develops Latina leaders who
will return to their communities and work to ensure that political and policy
changes meet the needs of the nation's growing Latino population. Perez is the
director of the California Executive Fellowship Program.
Monica
Freeman, Global Education, has been selected as one of four participants
nationally for the Fulbright U.S.-Korea International Education Administrators
Program to take place in June. Freeman has served as Sacramento State’s
Fulbright advisor for more than 20 years and has previously held two Fulbrights:
one to Germany and one to France. She has also been elected vice president-elect
of Phi Beta Delta, the honor society for international scholars. The Sacramento
State chapter was one of the original founding chapters.
The Sacramento
State Aquatic Center has been awarded the bid to host the 2006 Intercollegiate
Water Ski National Championships, Oct. 12-14 at Bell Acqua Ski Lakes in Rio
Linda. Skiers will come from 22 universities to compete in the Division I and
Division II national championships. The Water Ski Team is also celebrating its
30-year anniversary and will hold a reunion Oct. 14-15. For more information

Mary Mackey,
English, had her short fiction "Third Initiation: A Gift From the Land
of Dreams" in the anthology ParaSpheres: Extending Beyond the Spheres
of Literary and Genre Fiction, Fabulist and New Wave Fabulist Stories published
by Omnidawn Press.
Evri Kwong,
Art, has been invited to conduct an art workshop on April 22 as part of the
"Any Town, Any Time: Drawing as Painting, Painting as Drawing in Contemporary
Context" series sponsored by the Di Rosa Preserve at the Sonoma Community
Center. He also has artworks in the Di Rosa Preserve collection.
Robert
Ortbal, Art, has his recent work "Pollinate II" on exhibit
in the gallery at Fresh Paint Art Advisors in Culver City through May 1.
Dan Deocampo,
Geology, had his paper titled "Evaporative Evolution of Surface Waters
and the Role of Aqueous CO2 in Magnesium Silicate Precipitation: Lake Eyasi
and Ngorongoro Crater, Northern Tanzania" published in the South African
Journal of Geology.

The story touched on his goals as coach of the Sacramento State men’s
basketball team and the strategies he uses to motivate players.

Clemons, Financial Aid, was quoted in the Dec. 8 Sacramento Bee
and on KCRA Channel 3 about a state error that jeopardized financial aid
to a thousand college students in California and what students at Sacramento
State can do.
