Pride Week offers a variety of events

Sacramento State’s PRIDE Center will kick off its annual Pride Week celebration with a mixer, the Gay Bash, at 6 p.m., Monday, April 6 in the PRIDE Center, Lassen Hall room 3011. The mixer will create networking opportunities and provide students the chance to meet other supportive organizations. Refreshments will be served.

Dance performances, music, spoken word, poetry and skits will highlight the eighth annual Gender Bender, 6 p.m., Tuesday, April 7 in The University Union's Hinde Auditorium.

Lesbian comedian Bridget McManus will perform at 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 8, in the Hinde Auditorium. McManus has performed at the Hollywood Improv, The Comedy Store and the Ice House. Special guest will be Sacramento area comic and Sacramento State student Mikhail Chernyavsky.

Good Vibrations, a woman-focused retailer, will conduct an interactive workshop at the store 6-8 p.m., Thursday, April 9. The workshop will educate the community about pleasure physiology and provide a run-down of Gender 101. The event is for those 18 or older and IDs will be checked.

Pride Week concludes with the Sacramento Kings of Drag troupe 6-8 p.m., Friday, April 10 at Hinde Auditorium. The group asks the audience to suspend normative gender roles and consider larger issues at hand. Past performances have dealt with issues such as Gay Marriage, Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, and victimization.

All events are free. For more information, e-mail PRIDE@csus.edu.
