It
is never too early for parents and their children to start thinking about college.
Sacramento State will team up with other local colleges and universities from
8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 6 to invite students in grades six through
nine and their families to campus for the 12th annual “College: Making
It Happen” event in the University Union Ballroom.
Youngsters and
their parents can attend workshops on preparing academically and financially
for college. They can also explore career options. Representatives from Sacramento
area colleges and universities will be on hand to answer questions and provide
information.
A video will be
shown that emphasizes the importance of planning for college early and the need
for the entire family to become involved. In addition, the event offers workshops
on admissions and financial aid, in both Spanish and Hmong.
The event is sponsored
by Sacramento State, the Los Rios Community College District, UC Davis, the
Sacramento County Office of Education, Capitol Center MESA and Linking Education
and Economic Development.
