Debate team members
Kevin Rodriguez and Faythe Vollrath were awarded
the Scholastic All American Debater Award at the Cross Examination Debate Association
National Championship Tournament in Dallas, Texas. The award is given to students
who show evidence of success and good conduct in debate, demonstrate excellence
in their classroom studies and show a commitment to the betterment of their
communities through outside activities. Only 30 students of the 400 in attendance
at the tournament were given the award.
Recognition
Six faculty members
will be nominated for membership in the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at the
annual banquet April 26. The nominated faculty are: Jacqueline Carrigan,
Sociology; Patricia Clark-Ellis, College of Health and Human
Services; Jennifer Lundmark, Biological Sciences; Katherine
McReynolds, Chemistry; Rosemary Papa, Educational
Leadership and Center for Teaching and Learning; and Otis Scott,
College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies. More than 100 students
will also be initiated in the society.

Gerald
Walburg, Art emeritus, will have a show of his 1970s work on display
April 18 to May 11 at Sierra College's Ridley Gallery.
Liam Murphy,
Anthropology, had the second edition of his edited book Readings for a History
of Anthropological Theory published by Broadview Press.
Bill Owen,
Communication Studies, has a review of the book Summer Drizzles published
in the winter-spring issue of Modern Haiku. In the same issue, Owen’s
edited book If I Met Basho was reviewed.
George
Jouganatos, Business and Economics, conducted a “Continuing Legal
Education” seminar for attorneys at the Sacramento County Public Law Library
on Feb. 17.
Jana Noel, Teacher Education, has been invited to join the
Invisible College, a group of 100 scholars worldwide who conduct research on
teaching and teacher education. Noel co-chaired a session on "Integrating
Communities, Public Schools, and Universities" on April 6 at the annual
meeting of the Invisible College.

Loot," published in the Los Angeles Times on April 4. Another
essay, "The Luck of the Historian," will be posted in April on the
website of the History News Network.

Wassmer, Public Policy and Administration, was quoted in the Oct. 19
West Sacramento Press and in the Oct. 16 Dixon Tribune on
the results of a Sacramento State study on whether controlling sprawl increases
housing prices.

Robert

Record about a recent study he released on poverty rates among Mexican
Americans and Puerto Rican Americans.
Melinda
Wilson, Theatre and Dance, was quoted in the Carmichael Times
on Nov. 8 about the play she directed, Blues for an Alabama Sky, and
revitalizing the black theater program on campus.
