More than 40 men from Sacramento State’s Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity (the Pikes) had their heads shaved to show solidarity for children with cancer and to raise money for childhood cancer research. The shaving occured on Wednesday, April 22, in the Mellow Me Out Salon in me University Union.

The Pikes have raised more than $5,000 in donations for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a global non-profit organization dedicated to making grants to research institutions to find new cures for childhood cancer and to find treatments to ensure a better quality of life for patients and survivors.

“In past years, my fraternity brothers and I have participated in St. Baldrick’s head-shaving events, but this year we decided that we wanted to host a memorable event of our own at Sac State,” says Robert Palu, Pike chapter president.

Palu says the Pikes “want this event to increase awareness to the fact that pediatric cancer is a top killer of children and is terribly under-funded, and with the help of Sac State’s fraternities and sororities as well as the rest of the campus community, the funding will improve.”
