President holds town hall meeting to discuss budget

University President Alexander Gonzalez and members of the University Budget Advisory Committee (UBAC) will hold a town hall meeting regarding the budget at noon, Tuesday, May 5, in the University Union Hinde Auditorium.

The President and UBAC will discuss the budget for next year as well as recommendations that have been made by UBAC to deal with anticipated budget reductions for 2009-10.

According to the President’s office, the California State University system expects to receive $268.5 million in one-time federal stimulus funds. The money will partially offset funding cuts to the CSU budget.

Also, the CSU Board of Trustees has had no discussions about furloughs or job cuts. President Gonzalez says the goal on campus remains to preserve jobs and course offerings and continue to provide opportunities to students.

“We are still waiting to see how the state’s May 19 special election and the governor’s planned budget revise on May 28 will affect the CSU budget in the coming fiscal year,” he says. “In the meantime, I will keep you posted as to any new developments."

Information about the budget can be found at www.csus.edu/pa/budget/.
