Lisa Beutler, Center for Collaborative Policy, was elected President of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA), Sacramento Chapter, at the annual Awards ceremony held May 7 in Sacramento. ASPA is the nation’s leading public service organization advancing the art, science, teaching and practice of public and non-profit administration. The Sacramento chapter, one of the oldest in the nation, represents most of Northern California, except the Bay Area.
Smile Dube’s paper “FDI, Portfolio Investment Inflows and Profit Remittances: A Causality Analysis for the South African Economy” has been accepted for publication in the Special Issue of African Finance Journal (AFJ).

Recognition
Abbi Stone, Associate Vice President for ABA’s Business & Administrative Services (BAS), received the CSU QI Distinguished Service Award for 2009. The award recognizes individuals who have made contributions to campus or system-wide quality improvement efforts.
Stephen Garcia, Vice President of Administration and Business Affairs, was appointed CSU QI Steering Committee chair.
Sarah Whyte, Administration and Business Affairs, received the California Awards for Performance Excellence Council Bear Award in recognition of her contributions to the 2008 CAPE program. The award is based on nominations submitted by peers who recognize her support and leadership.
Student Spotlight
Sacramento State sent a team of five students to compete in the 23rd California State University statewide Student Research Competition, held May 1-2, 2009 at CSU Los Angeles. The team included Renee Lyons (Education), Paul Dickey (Business Administration), Anthony Barley (Biology), Jim Alford (Biology), and Jennifer Rossiter (Biology). Paul Dickey placed second in the Business, Economics & Public Administration session, and Anthony Barley placed second in the Biological & Agricultural Sciences session.
