Scholarship Rob Wassmer, Public Policy and Administration, presented his paper on "California's State and Local Revenue Structure After Proposition 13: Is Denial an Appropriate Way to Cope?" to a national conference on Out of the Box State and Local Tax Policy at the Andrew Young School of Public Policy at Georgia State in Atlanta on May 14.
Will Corral, Foreign Languages, participated in a panel on May 15-17 and presented a paper on Latin American intellectuals at a conference organized by Boston University's Institute on Culture, Religion and World Affairs. His presentation will be published as an article in a forthcoming issue of Society. Corral also co-authored an article, "Triumph of the Business Model," that appeared in the June 6 issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education.
Barbara Carle, Foreign Languages, participated in a discussion at the joint conference of the American Association of Italian Studies and the American Association of Teachers of Italian, held in Taormina (Sicily) from May 22-26, about the “Journal of Italian Translation” by giving a talk and reading of poems in English and Italian. Carle also gave a poetry reading in Rome on May 29 at the Studio Campo. She also read her translation from Danish into Italian of, "The Pleiades at Midnight," by the poet Carsten Hauch.
Alyson Buckman, Humanities and Religious Studies, attended the international Slayage conference on the works of Joss Whedon in Arkadelphia, AR in June and presented an essay entitled, "'We stay local... but we live global': Theorizing History Through Place." Buckman also has an essay titled, "'Much Madness is Divinest Sense': Firefly's 'Big Damn Heroes' and 'Little Witches'" in an anthology titled Investigating Firefly and Serenity: Science Fiction on the Frontier, edited by Rhonda Wilcox and Tanya Cochran and published by I.B. Tauris.
Heather Diaz, Kinesiology and Health Science, had an abstract submission accepted as an oral presentation on the conference program of the SOPHE 59th Annual Meeting, titled, “Catching the Wave: Changing the Tides of Health Education and Health Promotion,” Oct. 23-25, in Mission Valley, San Diego.
Lisa Beutler, Center for Collaborative Policy, had a case study of her work featured in Loren Mead and Billie Alban's new book, Creating the Future Together, Methods to inspire your Whole Faith Community. The book focuses on use of large group methods in religious settings, offers context and the philosophy behind the methods, explains when the methods might be used, and offers case studies, including Beutler's, that demonstrate how the methods may be used.

Anthony Sheppard, Recreation, Parks and Tourism Administration, conducted an interview that appeared in the May 15 issue of Capitol Weekly. The interview with Tom McCarthy (writer/director) and Haaz Sleiman (actor) focused on their current film, The Visitor, and addressed character development, actor motivation, politics, and immigration law.
