purchases land for faculty and staff ‘village’
Sacramento State President Alexander Gonzalez announced
Thursday that the University has completed the purchase
of a 25-acre parcel near campus, which will be used to
develop affordable and attainable housing for faculty
and staff.

Stage
set for fall arts
From
clay to plays, rock to talks, Sacramento State will host and
present an eclectic line-up of events throughout the fall
semester, and many events are free. The mix includes groundbreaking
ceramic works by California artists, dance by the region’s
premier ethnic troupe, films with a female focus, modern and
world music, lectures both serious and silly, and an on-stage
examination of the state of theater.

Campus pairs with area law
enforcement to reduce problem drinking
Officials from Sacramento State and local law enforcement
Friday announced the launch of multi-agency effort to encourage
responsible drinking among college students at a press conference
on campus.

Fall
semester brings extra parking challenges
Today’s start of fall classes is expected to find parking
to be unusually scarce at Sacramento State. The recent start
of construction on a new parking structure near the University’s
Stadium, which will help in the long-run, means that some
800 parking spots have been temporarily lost. That’s
nearly 10 percent of the parking on a campus where spots are
tough to come by anyway.

A Guaranteed Ride Home program is available for commuters
who use alternate transportation.
In the event a pre-registered participant or their commute
partner is required to work unscheduled overtime or
experiences a qualifying emergency, guaranteed transportation
is provided via taxi, or a rental car for those who
live more than 20 miles from campus, up to six times
in a 12-month period. Employees who travel to and from
campus at least three days per week—or 60 percent
of their work schedule—by bicycle, bus, carpool,
vanpool, light rail or walking may participate in the
program. Some restrictions apply.

Men's
basketball draws Samford
The
Sacramento State men’s basketball schedule was completed
today when it was announced the Hornets would take on Samford
in the first round of the Guardians Classic on Tuesday, Nov. 15
in Austin, Texas. The Hornets will then take on either Southern
or host Texas in the second round of the tournament on Wednesday,
Nov. 16.
