Budget issues headline President’s convocation
In his annual fall address to the campus community Thursday, Aug. 27, President Alexander Gonzalez said positive communication, collaboration and transparency were keys to handling the challenges brought about by an unprecedented reduction in state funds.
“While economic troubles present many problems and difficulties, they also give us the opportunity to examine what we are doing and how we can do it better and more efficiently,” Gonzalez says.
On the campus budget, Gonzalez emphasized that the University’s efforts to manage previous cuts and hit its enrollment targets had put Sacramento State in a “relatively better position” to address the latest reduction. He praised the work of faculty and staff across campus who were bringing positive attention to Sacramento State.
Gonzalez also says students must continue to be the number one focus.
“We will meet our goals and still provide the best educational experience we can for our students,” he says. “I want us to focus this next year on working together to develop a plan for what we want to see happen as we continue to strive to be a destination campus and, in fact, the best campus in the CSU.”
