Grad school info available
Sacramento State’s Graduate Diversity Office will hold its annual Graduate and Professional School Information Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday Sept. 21 in the Library Quad. Nearly 70 institutions will be on hand, including some of the nation's top universities.

It is free and open to the public. In case of rain, the event will be moved to the University Union.

More Book Bin offerings
The Friends of the Library has expanded its Book Bin hours. In addition to being open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday and Thursday of the month, the Book Bin will also be open the first and third Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Scheduled days this semester are:
• Sept. 1, 2, 7, 15, 16 and 21
• Oct. 5-7 and 19-21
• Nov. 2-4 and 16-18
• Dec. 1, 2, 7, 15, 16 and 21

Focus on sustainability
The second meeting of the University’s Interdisciplinary Center for Sustainability will be at 1 p.m., Sept. 16 in Mendocino Hall 1032.

The vision of the new center is to assess the needs of the greater Sacramento region to determine goals and objectives for using local resources necessary to design a sustainable environment, thereby increasing the region's economic independence and self-sufficiency. The center is open to participation from faculty, staff and students who have an interest in sustainability and "relocalization."

Disabilities topic of ethics lecture
Sara Goering, professor of philosophy at the University of Washington, will speak on “Genetics Justice and Disability Rights” from noon to 1:30 p.m., Friday, Sept 23 in the University Union Delta Suite. The talk, part of the Center for Practical and Professional Ethics Fall Ethics Colloquium Series, is free and open to the public.

In her presentation, Goering will compare key claims regarding genetic interventions in the book From Chance to Choice with critiques from several disability scholars, in an effort to find common ground on genetic justice for people with disabilities. The event is supported by the Visiting Scholar Program and the Department of Philosophy.

Overseas teaching opportunities
Sacramento State faculty members can apply for assignment as a resident director to live and work overseas with one of several CSU international education programs. Opportunities exist for programs in China, France, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain and possibly Israel. Resident directors receive their current salaries plus overseas compensation.

Completed forms are due to the Office of International Programs by Dec. 1.
