Grants

A team led by Lisa Hammersley, Geology, has been awarded a $99,592 grant from the Opportunities for Enhancing Diversity in the Geosciences program at National Science Foundation to enhance the undergraduate geology program. The award is for a collaborative project involving Hammersley, Judith Kusnik, Kevin Cornwell and Brian Hausback to increase both the diversity of geology majors and research opportunities for students of color. It is centered on developing a new introductory geology course entitled "Geology of Mexico."

Scholarship

Sherrie Carinci, Teacher Education, was the keynote speaker at the American Association of University Women (AAUW) San Francisco Chapter Officers Luncheon on June 5.

Ed Brazo, Theatre and Dance, performed the role of "Eugene Fodor" in Crazy for You at the Sacramento Music Circus. He also served as a guest adjudicator at the "Rising Star Awards," an educational theatre program sponsored by New Jersey's State Theatre, the Papermill Playhouse.

Several mediators and researchers at the Center for Collaborative Policy gave presentations during the fourth National Conference on Environmental Conflict Resolution, in Tucson, Ariz., May 26. Dave Ceppos presented "Better Practice through Irreverence: The Use of Humor in Mediation." Greg Bourne presented "Cooperative Approaches to Managing Water in the West." Bourne and Mike Harty presented a workshop on "Advanced Collaborative Process Design." And Harty and Bill Leach presented "Surveying Our Values and Considering Neutrality."
