Craig Gallet, Economics, presented a paper titled, "The Demand for Alcohol: A Meta-Analysis of Elasticities," at the Competitive Forces affecting the Wine and Winegrape Industries Conference, held in August. The paper was also published in the July 2007 edition of the Australian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics. Another paper titled, "Snuff the Puff: International Evidence on the Determinants of Anti-Smoking Policy," was recently accepted for publication in Applied Economics Letters.
Darryl Freeman, Government, has been invited to present a research paper on "The Public Policy Challenges of Faith-Based NGOs and the Virtues of the Original CBO Mechanism of the Community Block Grant Program" at the Southern Political Science Association annual meeting in New Orleans in January 2008.
Tom Knutson, Communication Studies, spent the summer conducting research in Thailand at Bangkok University. A summary of his work on Thai communication behavior has been published on www.ebookthailand.net. While in Thailand, Knutson presented the keynote speech at the Youth Media: ASEAN Youth Producers conference at Sukhothai Thammatirat Open University in Bangkok. Knutson also delivered a paper, "International Education: Crises are Opportunities," at the Conference on Crisis in Education at Burapha University, Bang Saen, Chonburi, Thailand; presented an orientation program for visiting United States Americans from California State University, San Francisco, volunteering for the Thai Society for the Conservation of Wild Animals; presented a workshop at Bangkok University, "Differences between Mexican and Thai cultural values: Manyana and mai pen rai" for the International Business Leadership Program of Universidad Technologico de Monterrey; and visited and counseled Sacramento State students serving as English language assistants at Chitralada Royal Palace School in Bangkok.
Haroldene Wunder, Business, had her article titled, "International Corporate Tax Reform or Race to the Bottom," published in Tax Notes International.
Paul Goldstene, Government Emeritus, was the featured speaker on the subject of “The Historical Struggle Between Liberalism and Democracy” at the Third World in Perspective Seminar Series, sponsored by the Association of Third World Studies, at Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, Georgia, in June.
Lisa Beutler, Center for Collaborative Policy, was a featured speaker on collaborative leadership and the California Water Plan at the June 8 Association for Conflict Resolution Environment and Public Policy Section Conference held at Florida Atlantic University in Jupiter, Florida.
Mark Stoner, Communication Studies, delivered the keynote address at the Folsom Community College Faculty Convocation on August 24. Stoner also published a study of PowerPoint titled, “PowerPoint in a new key,” in the July 2007 issue of Communication Education and published an essay titled, “Uncovering the Powers within PowerPoint” in Issue 2, no. 4 of the online magazine Communication Currents.
