University
pride runs deep again during this year’s Sacramento State Homecoming Week—from
Oct. 2 to 7—with numerous opportunities for alumni, faculty and staff
to reconnect with their University. Activities span a range of interests and
include a visit from Sacramento Kings announcer Jerry Reynolds, class reunions,
the University’s annual Green and Gold Gala and the Homecoming football
game.
The week kicks
off with an Alumni Association Breakfast Club event featuring Jerry Reynolds,
the TV voice and former coach of the Sacramento Kings. Reynolds, the
first in this season’s series of Breakfast Club speakers, will share his
experiences in professional sports on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 7:30 a.m. in the Alumni
Center. Admission is $10 general, free to Alumni Association members. Call 278-6295
to reserve a space.
Later in the day,
alumni, students, faculty and staff are invited to join the giant inflatable
mascot Herky the Hornet in the annual “Swarm Day photo” at noon
in the Library Quad. The photo, updated every year, is used in University publications
and on the website as the “face of the campus” and reflects the
spirit of the University.
The Golden Grads
Lunch will provide a reunion of the Sacramento State classes of 1949-1957 on
Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 11:30 a.m. in the Alumni Center. Reservations are $30.
Call 278-6295 to reserve a space. Entertainment includes live music from the
‘50s and ‘60s.
A rousing rally
will be held on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. in the University Union Serna Plaza
featuring athletes, coaches, Sacramento State’s marching band and dance
team, pep squad and Herky the Hornet. The Homecoming King and Queen coronation
will follow the rally. After the rally and coronation, a free outdoor screening
of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest will be held in Serna Plaza.
A highlight of
Homecoming Week is the University’s Green and Gold Gala. This year’s
gala will celebrate the University’s 60th year and philanthropists Eli
and Edythe Broad. The event, which promises an evening of arts, music and the
unexpected, will be held Friday, Oct. 6 in the University Union Ballroom, beginning
at 5:30 p.m. For ticket information, visit www.csus.edu/gala or call 278-7043.
The 2006 Fall Faculty and Staff Homecoming Event will round out Homecoming week this year. The event, held on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 3 to 6 p.m., will take place at the Alumni Center. Activities will include a barbeque, live music, dance performances and a "Kids Zone" with face painting, games and prizes.
