Scholarship

Francie Dillon
, Teacher Education, has been invited to be the keynote speaker for the Young Readers' Conference at Fort Hays State University, Ft. Hays, KA., Oct. 10-11. Approximately 600 young people and their sponsors from locations in western Kansas will attend. The conference enables children, teachers, parents and librarians to meet nationally known writers, storytellers, poets, and/or illustrators.

Student Spotlight

Rachel Blackeye, Russell Clayton and Michelle Watterson, master’s students in Chemistry, attended the National American Chemical Society meeting in Philadelphia, PA., Aug. 17-21, where they presented their research in the Carbohydrate Chemistry Division.  Blackeye and Watterson were additionally chosen to participate in the Sci-Mix session at the conference.

Tim Hodson, Center for California Studies, was quoted in the Oakland Tribune, Hayward Daily Review, Pleasanton Tri-Valley Herald, West County Times and the Hayward Sunday Review on June 4 regarding election results and in the San Francisco Chronicle June 19 regarding state budget negotiations.

Barbara O’ Connor, Communication Studies, was quoted in the San Francisco Chronicle June 19 regarding the presidential election; in the San Francisco Chronicle June 25 regarding the 2010 race for California governor; and in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat regarding the politics of coastal drilling.

Roberto Pomo, Film Studies, was quoted in the Sacramento Bee June 20 regarding Latino stereotypes in film and the career of movie star Carmen Miranda.

Nancy Shulock, Institute for Higher Education Leadership and Policy, was quoted in the Sacramento Bee and the Fresno Bee June 17 regarding a report on community colleges.
