Scholarship

Jana Noel, Teacher Education, will have two entries published in the Encyclopedia of the Social and Cultural Foundations of Education, to be published in 2008. Her entries are on "Teacher Preparation" and "History of Native American Education."

Barbara O’Connor, Communication Studies, was quoted: in the May 31 Salinas Californian about California’s budget surplus and the impact it has on Gov. Schwarzenegger’s image; in the June 2 Stockton Record about negative political campaigns; in the May 15 San Bernardino Sun about voters’ apathy toward negative political campaigns; in the June 4 Napa Valley Register regarding undecided voters in the gubernatorial primary election; in the June 3 Contra Costa West County Times and Monterey County Herald about Proposition 82’s chances of passing; in the May 18 San Ramon Valley Times and the June 1 Contra Costa West County Times about the efficacy of negative political ads; in the May 4 Sacramento News & Review about John Doolittle’s chances for re-election; in the June 15 Sacramento News & Review regarding Democratic veterans running for political office; and in the July 2006 Prosper Magazine about Sacramento State’s new logo.

Michael Semler, Government, was quoted in the June 2 San Francisco Chronicle about undecided voters in the gubernatorial primary election and in the May 26 Montclarion about the Oakland mayoral race.

Robert Waste, Public Policy and Administration, was featured in the May 28 Davis Enterprise about his role as panel advisor to the Yolo County Economic Development Task Force.

Josh McKinney, English, was featured in the May 25 Mendocino Beacon regarding his workshop at the Mendocino Coast Writers Conference.

Tim Fong, Ethnic Studies, was featured in the May 25 Lodi News-Sentinel about the report he co-authored that studied poverty rates among Asian Americans in the state.

Tim Hodson, Center for California Studies, was quoted in the June 24 Sacramento Bee about the Governor’s and other top elected officials’ pay raises.

Robert Fountain, Applied Research Center, was quoted in the June 25 Sacramento Business Journal about Sacramento’s regional job growth.

Rob Wassmer, Public Policy and Administration, was quoted in the June 20 Sacramento Bee about the housing bust in the 1990s.

Chris Taylor, Astronomy and Physics, was interviewed on KMAX Channel 31 on June 21 about the summer solstice.

Amy Liu, Sociology, was interviewed on KCRA Channel 3 on June 3 and Capital Public Radio on June 23 and was quoted in the June 23 Sacramento Bee about her study on the rising cost of homes in the Sacramento area and was interviewed on Capital Public Radio on June 23 regarding her study on Sacramento area residents’ concerns about flooding.

Ted Lascher, Public Policy and Administration, was interviewed on Capital Public Radio on June 26 about the multitude of propositions on the November ballot.

ASI Children’s Center has earned national accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the nations leading organization of early childhood professionals.

Carol Stensrud, Recreation and Leisure Studies, spoke at the National Institute of Recreation Inclusion in Groton, Connecticut in Sept. 2006. Her talk was entitled: Kia Ora! Lord of the Rings Five Country "All Inclusive Tour" which provided a visual diary of selected highlighted services from the Unities States, United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
