In Memoriam - Vernon "Ted" Hornback Jr.

Vernon “Ted” Hornback Jr., professor emeritus of English, passed away on September 22 after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage. After completing his doctorate at St. Louis University in 1963, Hornback joined the faculty of Sacramento State College in 1964. A Faulkner and Shakespeare scholar, Professor Hornback taught at Sacramento State for 37 years and was chair of the English department for 28 years. He was also instrumental in forming the statewide CSU English Council. A funeral mass was held on Sept. 26 at Presentation Church. He is remembered for the “deep and abiding legacy in the department he helped shape and the faculty, staff, and students whose lives he touched.”
