Sac State and Davis compete to donate blood
Sacramento State will compete against UC Davis in yet another event -- saving lives. This fall, the two schools will participate in the second BloodSource-sponsored blood drive.
Sacramento State’s blood drive is 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 19-20, in the University Union Ballroom. A “fast track” line will be set up to speed processing for faculty and staff.
Participants will receive a free T-shirt, a ticket to see Dolphins and Whales at the Esquire IMAX Theatre in Sacramento and will be entered to win one of 20 iPod music players. The group with the most participation will win $500.
Participants will also receive a coupon for 30 percent off any Twilight Saga book, and 20 percent off other Twilight merchandise. Participants can also enter a contest to win cardboard stand-ups of two of the series’ star characters, Edward and Bella.
Alumni and community members may participate by either coming to the blood drive or donating to one of the BloodSource locations. If participating as an alumni, use code L030. The code for the general public to donate for Sacramento State is L029. Visit http://www.bloodsource.org/locations.aspx for BloodSource locations.
The Hornet Bookstore will give a 10 percent discount on clothing, gifts and most general books to alumni. An alumni card must be presented at the purchase.
Donor candidates must be at least 17 years old, in good health and must weigh at least 110 pounds. A photo ID will be required.
Last year, Sacramento State gave 970 units of blood during the drive while UC Davis donated 1,301. Sacramento State registered 1,217 people.
“Blood donations help save lives because there is no substitute for human blood,” says Dawn Deason, BloodSource public affairs manager. “We need to collect 700 units per day in our area to meet the general needs for our hospitals.”
