Sac State prepares for homecoming

Sacramento State is getting ready for its annual homecoming week Oct. 5-10 with activities celebrating the Hornet spirit.

Highlights include the Homecoming Festival and Tailgating Party, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, next to the Alumni Center; and the football game between Sacramento State and Idaho State at 2:05 p.m. that same day.

University President Alexander Gonzalez, with support from the Athletics Department, will be offering faculty and staff up to four free tickets to the game. To RSVP for tickets visit www.csus.edu

. Tickets can be picked up at the Alumni Center during the festival. The first 500 to people to pick up tickets will receive a free Sac State bag.

Festival activities will be hosted by Mark S. Allen, anchor for Channel 31’s “Good Day Sacramento.” There will be live music, martial arts demonstrations, highlights from Sacramento State’s musical comedy Bat Boy and a cupcake eating contest. There will also be a rock-climbing wall and food vendors.

Activities include a Kidz Zone with bounce houses, face painting, arts and crafts, games and a science center.

Prizes will be awarded for the best tailgate food. Food tasters will be making the rounds from noon-1 p.m. Visit the Alumni Association booth before noon on Saturday, Oct.10 for more information.

Sacramento State welcomes back its alumni at the annual Golden Grads Reunion 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9. Classes from 1949-1959 are being honored. Guest speaker is Bill Nichols, class of 1959. He is a thoroughbred breeder and a source for the 2001 movie, Seabiscuit: An American Legend. Emcee is former News10 reporter Marcey Brightwell. Other events include a free punk rock concert sponsored by Unique on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the University Union and the Artist on the Verge alumni art show that runs through Wednesday, Oct. 16.
