Hellen
Lee-Keller, English, presented her current research on racial and sexual
politics in nineteenth-century San Francisco at the annual meeting of the American
Studies Association on Oct. 12-15 in Oakland, CA. Her paper, "Regulating
the Social Evil: Representing Racialized Labor in San Francisco, 1868-1872,"
analyzes the ways in which accentuated discourses of sexuality and morality
obscured material conditions, economic barriers, and legal constraints limiting
labor opportunities for racialized women.
Kazue Masuyama,
Foreign Languages, and Andrea Shea, Academic Technology &
Creative Services, gave a presentation entitled "Facilitating Japanese
Language Learning Through Collaboratively Developed Innovative Online Activities"
at the MERLOT International Conference, August 8-11 in Ottawa, Canada.
Jana Noel,
Education, has an article titled "Integrating a New Urban Teacher Education
Center into a School and its Community" published in the Journal of Urban
Learning, Teaching and Research.
Thelma
Matthews, Office of Public Safety, received the University’s
2006 Top Gun Sharpshooter Award in July, after achieving the highest target
shooting score among all campus police participants. Four times a year, the
Public Safety Department conducts firearms training at the Folsom Prison Range,
where accuracy over three possible targets is measured at distances of from
75 feet to 9 feet.
The College
of Continuing Education will receive two awards from the Project Management
Institute. Sacramento State has been named Professional Development Provider
of the Year and its Caltrans Project Management Certificate Program was named
Professional Development Product of the Year for 2006.
