Sacramento State President Alexander Gonzalez presented a balanced budget for the 2008-09 fiscal year to the campus community Thursday in Hinde Auditorium.
He also applauded the University Budget Advisory Committee (UBAC) for its work amid today’s tough economic times. The same economic conditions that threaten state funding also increase demand for education.
The University’s budget is in line with expectations outlined in the May Revision of the state budget. Based on that level of funding from the state, UBAC recommended reductions that would have the least impact on the campus. President Gonzalez accepted and implemented the committee’s recommendations but cautioned that future reductions in state funding could place further pressure on the University budget.
The University’s budget includes a state General Fund appropriation of $165.6 million and revenues of $84.1 million. Uses are $256.8 million.
The $7.1 million structural deficit was closed through reductions recommended by UBAC.
UBAC is a campus-wide committee comprised of faculty, staff and students, charged with facilitating development of a highly transparent, informative, and participatory campus general fund budgeting process.
