University co-sponsors national engineering convention

Sacramento State and UC Davis will sponsor the annual Tau Beta Pi convention Oct. 25-28, at the Sacramento Hyatt Regency Hotel.

Tau Beta Pi is the national engineering honor society, and this is the first time the two chapters have hosted the event. Sacramento State’s chapter is California Upsilon and UC Davis’ chapter is California Lambda.

The event is expected to draw about 500 people and scores of engineering firms, exhibit and recruitment booths.

“The two chapters lobbied to host the convention and it’s a major feather in their hat that they were successful,” says Sue Holl, chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.  “Obviously, it takes a great deal of work to host a national-level event, but it’s an opportunity for our students to show their organizational skills as well as their engineering skills.”

Tau Beta Pi, founded in 1885, is the nation's second-oldest honor society and the only engineering honor society representing the entire engineering profession. It has chapters at 234 US colleges and universities, active alumni chapters in 16 districts across the country, and a total initiated membership of 500,907.
