Anne-Louise
Radimsky, Computer Science, has been named faculty
consultant on the CMS Student Administration implementation
project. She will be seeking faculty input during the implementation
process and will serve in an advisory capacity to the project
team. The position is effective Jan. 18.
Scholarship
Mike
Christensen, Environmental Health and Safety, gave
presentations at two conferences this year. He presented “Learning
Management System Querying Tools: The Power of Reports”
at the 21st annual Training Directors Forum on May 24 in Chandler,
Ariz. He presented “Use Technology to Gauge Understanding
of Training" to the Public Agency Safety Managers Association
on Oct. 5 in San Diego.
Daniel Orey, Teacher Education and Learning
Skills Center, is on leave from Sacramento State as a visiting
researcher through the Brazilian National Science Foundation,
CNPq. He is a professor in the Instituto de Cincias Exatas
e Biolgicas at the Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto in Minas
Gerais, Brasil. Orey presented a paper at the University of
Sao Paulo at the 1st Seminrio Paulista de Histria de Educao
de Matemtica entitled "Desenvolvimento Histrico do Programa
Etnomatemtica" on Oct. 10-12.
Joseph
A. Palermo, History, has signed a book contract with
Longman Publishers to write a biography of Robert F. Kennedy
for its "American Biography Series." Longman chooses
leading scholars in their fields to participate in the series.
Arthur
Williamson, History, presented a paper to Jagiellonian
University, in Krakow, Poland on Sept. 17. The paper was titled
"'The Nation Epidemicall': The Scottish Diaspora in Poland,
Germany, and England, 1550-1650." It was part of an international
conference on British and Polish relations during the late
medieval and early modern period. It is expected that the
paper will be peer-reviewed and published.

Gordon, Child Development, was quoted in July 10
Sacramento Bee and July 11 Hayward Daily Review
and Fresno Bee stories regarding a bill that would
impose state-mandated preschool curriculums.
John
Syer, Government, was quoted in a July 17 Sacramento
Bee article about the hardships that politicians face
in their marriages due to the stress of their careers.
Heather
Dunn Carlton, Student Services, was interviewed July
20 for a Sacramento Bee story discussing the drop
in reckless student drinking as a result of an alcohol education
program that has been recently added to freshman orientation.
Barbara
O’Connor, Communication Studies, was quoted
in: an Aug. 9 Sacramento Bee article about the impact
Peter Jennings had on modern media; Aug. 2 Los Angeles
Times, Marin Independent Journal, San Jose
Mercury News, and Contra Costa Times stories
about the financial controversy surrounding the fall ballot;
and an Aug. 23 San Francisco Chronicle story on a
boycott of Target Stores because of the corporation’s
donations to Gov. Schwarzenegger.
Robert
Waste, Public Policy and Administration, was quoted
in an Aug. 7 Sacramento Bee story about the way the
new sheriff’s job will evolve due to changes in society.
He was interviewed for an Aug. 29 Sacramento Bee article
about a bill that would aid efforts to fund a new stadium
in the area.
Tim
Hodson, Center for California Studies, was quoted
in Aug. 2 and Aug. 3 San Francisco Daily Journal,
Santa Rosa Press Democrat, Lakeport Record Bee
and Manteca Bulletin stories regarding the record-breaking
costs incurred by the fall special election.
Steve
Mooshagian, Intercollegiate Athletics, was quoted
in an Aug. 8 Sacramento Bee story about the intense
competition facing those trying out for quarterback this year.
He was also quoted in an Aug. 30 Sacramento Bee story
guaranteeing a positive season for the Hornets.
Stephen
Crow, Business Administration, was interviewed for
a July 29 Sacramento Business Journal article discussing
the large number of accountancy students who were able to
secure jobs after graduation.
Dan
Okada, Criminal Justice, was interviewed for a Sept.
2 Sacramento Bee article regarding the social reasons
behind gang violence.
