Jackie Greene, the Sacramento
region’s own music success story, will perform in concert at Sacramento
State on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the University Union Ballroom.
Greene, a native of Cameron Park, made his first public appearances at 16 as
a musician in the coffeehouses of Placerville, where he became known for his
distinct musical blend of rock, country, blues and R&B on guitar. Greene
financed his first professionally recorded CD, Rusty Nails, by selling
a CD he burned himself and would sell after his small venue appearances. The
investment paid off when Greene garnered a regional following.
He moved on to performing
in Sacramento for standing-room only crowds in clubs that would make him wait
outside between his sets because he was under 21. It was at a club in Sacramento
where Greene was discovered and signed to a record label, which released his
second album Gone Wanderin’. The album earned Greene national
attention and praise, as well as a California Music Award as Best Blues/Roots
Album. Since then, he has released another CD, Sweet Somewhere Bound,
and has opened for acts such as Buddy Guy and B.B. King.
Special guest Chris Webster,
a singer/songwriter specializing in country and classic rhythm and blues—also
a member of Sacramento band Mumbo Gumbo—will open for Greene.
