Hornets hoop season begins

The Hornets men’s and women’s basketball teams begin their seasons this month.
Sacramento State’s men’s and women’s basketball teams kick off their seasons this month.
The men’s team will play a home exhibition game against Menlo at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, in the Hornets Nest in Yosemite Hall. They open their regular season at the Rice Basketball Challenge in Houston, Texas, Nov. 13-15. The team will play Rice, Houston Baptist and South Alabama during the three-day, three-game tournament.
The women’s program begins Nov. 10 with a home exhibition game against Dominican University of California, 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, in the Hornets Nest. The team opens the season at home against Cal State Fullerton at 2:05 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15.
The women's team is under new direction this year with Jamie Craighead taking over as the interim head coach. She replaces Dan Muscatell, who left after six seasons to take an assistant coaching job at the University of Oregon. Craighead has been an assistant the past two years.
