Student Affairs collects during blood drive

Student Affairs received $500 from Sacramento BloodSource as the top donor group during the Causeway Classic two-day donor drive Oct. 19 and 20. The drive is a competition between the University and UC Davis. It is in its second year.

Student Affairs had 56 participants in the drive, and the Sacramento State community gave a record amount of blood. More than 1,330 people registered and almost 1,040 units of blood were collected. Last year, the two-day drive netted about 1,000 participants and more than 815 pints. Also this year, more than 200 people registered as bone marrow donors.

Although the two-day drive is over, the Causeway Classic donor drive continues. Alumni and community members can participate in the competition by donating to one of the BloodSource locations by Wednesday, Nov. 18. If participating as an alumnus, use code L030 and the donation will count towards Sac State’s total. The code for the general public to donate for Sacramento State is L029. Visit http://www.bloodsource.org/locations.aspx for BloodSource locations.

The winning school will be announced at the 56th Causeway Classic Football game between Sacramento State and UC Davis 2:05 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at Hornet Stadium. Davis won the blood drive competition last year. Sacramento State won the game 29-19.

BloodSource will also give away 20 iPods to donors, and names will be announced Nov. 18.
