Ethics lecture looks at the right side of doing the wrong thing
Knowing right from wrong is one thing. Choosing the right path is another matter. That will be the topic of discussion when Professor Becky Cox White of California State University, Chico presents a lecture titled, “Moral Reasoning and Problem Solving,” 2 to 5 p.m., Monday, Nov. 19, in the University Union Orchard Suite.
White, who holds a doctorate in philosophy and is a professor of philosophy and bioethics, will describe the systematic methods people use to resolve moral dilemmas, then will present a case to the audience to be resolved.
A registered nurse, White is a specialist in ethical theory and biomedical ethics. She developed her interest in those areas while working as a critical care nurse. She has published a number of books and articles in the areas of informed consent, the role of professional integrity in health care allocation, aid-in-dying and moral decision-making
The lecture is free and open to the public. It is presented by Sacramento State’s Center for Practical and Professional Ethics. The center was founded in 2005 by the Philosophy Department to complement the department’s teaching and scholarly focus on ethics. The lecture is sponsored by the University’s Visiting Scholars’ Program.
