Professional Activities

Scholarship

Santos Torres, Social Work, served as session chair at the Council on Social Work Education’s 53rd annual program meeting in October for two oral sessions. The first was the "Values and Ethnics Track" and a second was the "Research and Program Evaluation Track.”

Serge Lee, Social Work, spent six weeks in April and May 2007 in Guizhou Province, China, as a Fulbright Senior Specialist grantee. During his Fulbright activities, he provided 10 lectures to the students and five seminars to the faculty at the Social Development College at Guizhou University for Nationalities. In addition, he provided one seminar each to the Ethnic Minority Studies Center and Hmong Studies Association in Guiyang City, Guizhou. Lee also worked as consultant to the Department of Social Work at Guizhou University for Nationalities on curriculum developments issues. In collaboration with the University of California, Davis, Medical Center’s Cancer Center, Lee helped launched “Community-based Hepatitis B Intervention for Hmong Adults” on Oct. 15. The project is a five-year study funded by NIH that will go through November 2011. 

Student Spotlight

Beth Glidewell, Biological Sciences, presented a poster of her honors thesis, “Sexual dimorphism in the Convict Cichlid” and was selected as one of three winners of the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology section at the 108th Annual Meeting and Student Research Competition of Sigma Xi, Orlando, Fl., Nov. 1-4.
