Food survey
Sacramento State is seeking input from students, faculty and staff regarding food services on campus and general spending patterns off campus. A survey on the topic is located at www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=1ozb1TX0kB3m55doQxy3LA_3d_3d.

Participants completing the survey by March 1 will be entered into a drawing to win one of three $100 gift certificates to Best Buy.

IRA call
The 2009-2010 Instructionally Related Activities (IRA) call for proposals is now posted at www.csus.edu/aba/ira. This year’s proposal deadline is Friday, March 27.

Newsletter available
The latest edition of the Writing Across the Curriculum is now available at www.csus.edu/wac/newsletters. Issue #22 includes an article on teaching research as a process by Laura Basini of the Music Department, an article on evening tutoring at the Library and information about upcoming Writing Across the Curriculum workshops.

Staff Awards luncheon
The Staff Awards luncheon is 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Friday, April 17, in the University Union Ballroom. The event will honor University staff and administrators, as well as employees of University Enterprises and Associated Students for 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 years of service.

Tickets are $10 per person and must be purchased by April 7. Tickets will not be available for purchase at the door. Library survey
To assist the University Library in planning, Sacramento State faculty, students and staff are asked to participate in LibQUAL+ (2009), a survey developed by the Association of Research Libraries to measure the quality of library services, facilities and collections and to help identify ways to improve them.

The online survey is available from March 2-20. It consists of 27 core questions and takes approximately 8 to 13 minutes to complete. Participation is voluntary and responses are anonymous. Participants will have an opportunity to win an Apple iPod Touch or other prizes.  

Survey results will be available in the fall. Details will be posted on the Library's LibQUAL+ web site and linked from the Library web site.

Returned books
The Hornet Bookstore will begin returning unsold textbooks to vendors March 9. Instructors are asked to inform students who need to purchase books to do so before the deadline. 

Also, instructors who have textbooks that will not be used until later in the semester should contact the Textbook Department so the books can be retained.
Instructors who will use the same textbooks for summer or fall should submit their request now.        

Students who have been waiting to purchase textbooks should visit the textbook information counter to request that a textbook be placed on hold.

Webinar on employment agreements
The Research Administration office is hosting an 11-part webinar course from the National Center on Entrepreneurial Tech Transfer on the essentials of commercialization for researchers. 

The topic of the next session is, “The Advanced Essentials: Business Entities,” and it will be broadcast from 10 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, Feb. 25, in the Hornet Bookstore Building Boardroom (suite 3010).

President's Day buffet
The University Center Restaurant will hold a Presidents’ Day buffet 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Feb. 25, 26, and 27. A large selection of dishes and desserts will be offered. Data warehouse naming contest
 Information Resources and Technology is in the process of implementing a data warehouse for the campus and is running a competition to name the system.

The system is currently referred to as either the Data Warehouse or Cognos (the tool that it’s built on); however, IRT would like find a name that reflects how integral this system is to the University. To enter the naming competition, e-mail suggestions to Helen Norris at Helen.norris@csus.edu by March 6. The winner will be announced in mid-March.

The data warehouse is a one-stop shopping place for reporting needs, allowing people to generate reports with data from numerous systems. For more details on the system, contact Norris.

One Book luncheon
Sacramento State faculty are invited to attend a One Book Program presentation and luncheon focused on the 2009-2010 One Book, When the Emperor Was Divine, by Julie Otsuka, 11:45 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Friday, March 6, at the University Center Restaurant.

Attendees will learn about the book, resources and ways to integrate the book’s many themes into the classroom. Advanced reservation is required.  E-mail RSVPs to cecenter@csus.edu by Friday, Feb. 27.

Student research competition
The Office of Research Administration will host the 23rd annual Student Research Competition Saturday, March 7, 8 a.m.-2 p.m., in Mariposa Hall, Room 1001. Up to 10 students will be selected to present at the statewide competition to be held at CSU, Los Angeles, May 1-2.

Application guidelines are available at www.csus.edu/research/student/researchcomp.htm.  Faculty and staff are asked to encourage students to participate. The deadline to apply is Monday, March 2. Faculty jurors are also needed for the local competition on Saturday, March 7.

Catastrophic leave donation program
Sacramento State employees may voluntarily donate to other employees up to a maximum of 40 hours of sick or vacation leave credits in one-hour increments each fiscal year. Bargaining Units 1, 8, 10 and 11 may only donate up to 16 hours per fiscal year. If employees are interested in donating time, a donation form can be obtained at www.csus.edu/hr/forms.htm#Disability, or by visiting the Human Resources Disability Leaves office in Sacramento Hall 162, or by calling 278-3522.
