New dean
Fred Baldini has been selected as the dean of the College of Health and Human Services, effective July 15.  He replaces Dean Marilyn Hopkins who became the provost and chief operating officer for Touro University California in December. Since that time, HHS Associate Dean Patricia Clark-Ellis has acted as interim dean.

Baldini is the former chair of the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science and was the HHS interim associate dean. He has a doctorate in Exercise Science from Arizona State University, a master’s in Physical Education from Sacramento State and a bachelor’s in Physical Education from Sacramento State. He is also chair of the University Budget Advisory Committee.

Employee Assistance Program
The Employee Assistance Program will be open 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. during the summer. To make an appointment, contact Cathy Connors or Doug Adams at 278-5018.

Parking areas
Contractors will begin excavation and paving work in Lot 4 Monday, May 24.  The work is expected to be completed on Sunday, May 30.

During construction, access to the gate arm near Riverside Hall will remain open for deliveries to the University Union, and access to the existing ADA parking spaces in Lot 4 will remain open. Access for loading/unloading in the southwest corner of Lot 4 in support of the Hornet Bookstore will remain open, and the main access to UEI on the third floor of the Hornet Bookstore will remain open.

All timed parking spaces on the north side of the Hornet Bookstore will be closed during operations, and access to the shuttle bus shelter will be closed. Access to the paved faculty/staff parking spaces along the border of the project boundaries will be closed, and access to the UEI designated parking lot will be closed.

Parking Structure II will remain open for the duration of this project as an alternate parking area for faculty and staff.

As a reminder, several parking facilities will be closed for the summer period. Facilities will close at midnight May 26 and will reopen at 7 a.m. Aug. 23.

Football season tickets
Hornet football tickets for the 2010 season are available at or call 278-2222.

The Hornets open the season with an away game against Stanford Sept. 4. The home opener is Sept. 11 against Western Oregon. Other home games include Weber State, Montana State, Northern Colorado and Portland State. The annual Causeway Classic will be held at UC Davis Nov. 20. Fans who purchase season tickets will have the first opportunity to buy tickets for the Stanford and UC Davis games.

Ice Cream Safari
Sac State Serves will take part in the Ice Cream Safari at the Sacramento Zoo, Saturday, July 24.  Volunteers are needed to help set up, scoop ice cream, paint faces and serve refreshments for this fundraiser for the Sacramento Zoo. The event is open to volunteers age 15 or over.

Staff Appreciation Picnic
The Staff Appreciation Picnic is 11:30 a.m.-1-30 p.m. Friday, June 4, in the main quad in front of the Riverfront Center. The Picnic Committee is looking for donations for door prizes and drawings.

Clean air award
University Transportation and Parking Services will sponsor the 34th annual Breathe California Clean Air Awards Luncheon, 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, in the University Union Ballroom.

Human Resources

Catastrophic Leave Donation Program  
Sacramento State employees may voluntarily donate to other employees up to a maximum of 40 hours of sick or vacation leave credits in one-hour increments each fiscal year. Bargaining Units 1, 10 and 11 may donate only up to 16 hours per fiscal year. If employees are interested in donating time, a form can be obtained at, or visit the Human Resources Disability Leaves office in Sacramento Hall 162 or call 278-3522.
