Construction
update The Infrastructure II utilities upgrade project continues in various
locations. Sanitary sewer pipe installation in State University Drive West will
be the most disruptive to the campus community this week. State University Drive
West between the Sinclair Road intersection (adjacent to Parking Structure I)
north to Facilities Services will be closed to through traffic from 6 a.m. to
6 p.m. through Friday, July 21. Parking Structure I will be open but accessible
from the south only. Signage has been placed in appropriate locations to direct
traffic around the closure. Traffic on State University Drive (the road in front
of Facilities and Reprographics) may also be disrupted at various times during
the week but should remain open.
Observance
of Veterans’ Day
One of the bills signed by the Governor last semester recognizes the observance
of Veterans’ Day on Nov. 11, the actual date of the holiday. This year,
because Nov. 11 is a Saturday, Veterans’ Day will be observed on Nov.
10, which is a Friday. The campus will be closed that day in observance of the
holiday.
An additional implication for the campus is that this holiday is no longer available
to use during the traditional winter break in December. Human Resources is currently
discussing with representatives of the campus unions the best approach for preserving
a full week off for employees from Monday, Dec. 25 through Friday, Dec. 29.
The campus community will be apprised once those discussions have been completed.
Sheley
named interim provost
President Gonzalez has appointed Executive Vice President Joseph Sheley as the
University's Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The appointment
is effective July 17 and will continue until a permanent provost is named. The
search process will begin this fall.
In his new position, he will provide leadership for Academic Affairs and its
various programs and oversee the academic operations of the University. He will
continue to direct various special projects, including development of the Placer
Campus and oversight for Athletics. In addition he will also provide coordination
of the Destination 2010 initiative.
Musical
guest at University Center Restaurant
A special lunchtime performance by indie classical pianist Bradford W. Tilden
will take place on Friday, July 28 on the patio at the University Center Restaurant.
Tilden's compositions bring a fresh new style to the contemporary music scene.
The music of the Amherst College graduate bridges the gap between academic and
commercial music and is filled with a passion that leaves listeners deeply moved
and audiences wanting more.
The University Center Restaurant is Sacramento State's fine dining venue offering
friendly table service and delicious cuisine in the elegant dining room or on
its shaded outdoor patio. Seasonal selections and weekly specials are available
for the campus community. The restaurant is located at the west entrance to
the University Union across from the Student Health Connection. More information
is available online at www.enterprises.csus.edu/dining/area/ucr.html
