President’s fall address
University President Alexander Gonzalez will give his fall address to the campus community at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug, 27, in the University Union Ballroom. Coffee and light refreshments will be served at 9 a.m. in the adjoining ballroom. University staff members who wish to attend should secure the permission of their supervisors.

American River Courtyard tours
The Housing and Residential Life staff will conduct tours of the new American River Courtyard after President Gonzalez presents his fall address on Thursday, Aug. 27. Faculty and staff are invited to tour between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Edward Jones, Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, will lead the first tour group from the Union to the site. People interested in that tour should meet Jones near the Lobby Suite after the President’s address. People who want to tour later should walk to the main entrance (east side) of the Courtyard. Representatives from the Housing and Residential Life staff will be stationed throughout the building to help guide participants and respond to questions.

Trips to The WELL
Staff will conduct tours of The WELL recreation and fitness center construction site after President Gonzalez’ fall address on Thursday, Aug. 27. Anyone interested should assemble at 11:15 a.m. in The WELL Preview Room, across from Jamba Juice on the first floor of the University Union. The tour is limited to 15 people with appropriate shoe attire (no open toes and no heels) and should end at 12:25 p.m. If more than 15 people want the tour, a second session will take place from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. and will also begin at the Preview Room at 12:30. Participants will receive hard hats, safety glasses and vests at the site.
Ongoing tours of The WELL will continue to be held 3-4 p.m. Fridays for faculty, staff and students.

Return to regular hours
Beginning Monday, Aug. 24, summer work hours will end, and the campus will return to regular hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with an hour break for lunch). Some offices may have reduced hours because of budget cuts, and people are advised to check with offices for specific hours.

Hornet football tickets
Season tickets for Hornet football are on sale for as low as $50. Faculty and staff members can purchase season tickets for $50 in the reserve section (215) of Hornet Stadium. Blues festival on campus
Capital Public Radio will hold a Legendary Rhythm and Blues Revue behind its offices on campus 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11. The concert will feature the blues talents of Tommy Castro, Janiva Magness, Kenny Neal, John Nemeth and Terry Hanck.

Furlough plan approved
The campus implementation plan for furloughs has been approved by the California State University Chancellor’s Office. The full text of the six-page document is available at www.csus.edu/pa/furlough/. A grid noting staff, management and faculty designated furlough days is on page two of the document and is a good visual summary.
Campus officials are encouraging offices, departments and individuals to use Outlook’s Out-of-Office Assistant and their voice mail greetings to inform the public of office closures and hours because of furloughs.

Tea room ceremony
The University Library will hold tea ceremonies in the Sokiku Nakatani Tea Room and Garden at 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8 and 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9.
The Sokiku Nakatani Tea Room and Garden is located on the lower level of the University Library. Ceremonies are free and open to the public. For reservations, call Sally Hitchcock at 278-5954.

Clery Act information
In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, Sacramento State has made crime statistics available online at www.csus.edu/aba/police/cleryact.html. Reported crimes that occurred on campus, in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by Sacramento State and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus, during the last three years are included. The report also includes institutional polices concerning campus security, alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault and other safety matters. Print copies are available in the library and by request from the Office of Public Safety and the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs.

The Human Resources Benefits Office has scheduled a series of informational workshops on pre-retirement planning. In addition, Department of Personnel Administration (401k and 457 plans) and CSU Tax-Sheltered Annuity (430b plans) approved vendors will provide information on managing finances and investment contributions. Catastrophic leave donation program
Sacramento State employees may voluntarily donate to other employees up to a maximum of 40 hours of sick or vacation leave credits in one-hour increments each fiscal year. Bargaining Units 1, 8, 10 and 11 may donate only up to 16 hours per fiscal year.
