The Sacramento State Leader

Construction Management now an academic department
The thumbprint of Sac State's newly designated Construction Management Department is everywhere, from prominent regional projects such as airports and stadiums to the Broad Fieldhouse, Hornet Bookstore and other campus projects. The department had a 100 percent job placement rate of its May graduates and is a longtime overachiever in its 40-year history, dominating competitions against other universities with far more resources.

The program, which places students in full-time staff positions in the State Legislature, executive branch and court system, was evaluated and honored by Vault.com, a career management research and information website.

‘Mental Health Champion’ making a difference
Sacramento State Professor Susan Taylor has been selected by the Sacramento County Division of Behavioral Health Services as a “Mental Health Champion.” Taylor's focus is on coordinating mental health programs funded by the county and state. The honor is testament not only to Taylor, but to the University's dedication to mental health outreach.

Electoral guidance: Sac State Professor Kimberly Nalder, founder of the Project for an Informed Electorate, lectured on "Misinformation in American Politics" on Sept. 18.

Academic triumph:
Katrina Currie followed a profoundly arduous path to college. The payoff, however, has been especially sweet: a William Randolph Hearst/CSU Trustees' Award, which comes with a $3,000 scholarship.

Inspired to lead:
Sac State Professor Caroline Turner, recent president-elect of the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE), seeks to instill in others the passion for education that has fueled her inspiring journey.

Hometown hero:
For nearly five years, Sac State alumna Christina Preston has collected shoes for the homeless. Her selfless commitment to bettering the lives of the needy earned her a recent hourlong flight in an Air Force F-16D.
