About our Program
The California State University, Sacramento Dietetic Internship is a 12-month Internship providing full-time supervised practice with a minimum of 1400 hours of planned experience plus 10 units of graduate didactic coursework that will fulfill the Core Competencies for Dietitians. Successful completion of this Dietetic Internship after following a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), allows the Intern to sit for the Registration Examination for Dietitians. A signed verification form from your undergraduate program is necessary before proceeding with the Dietetic Internship.
Supervised practice at a variety of health care and community facilities is divided into five areas: Clinical Dietetics, Food Service Management, Community Nutrition, Outpatient Dietetics, and the intern's selected Concentration Area, either Disease Prevention and Health Promotion OR Advocacy and Public Policy.
The program is structured to provide a combination of didactic coursework and full-time supervised practice. Dietetic Internship faculty and a variety of guest speakers present current topics in dietetics that support supervised practice. Two 1-week vacations are scheduled during Winter and Spring, taking into consideration facility accommodations. Practice sites may require some weekend and holiday work. No class time will be scheduled during observed government holidays.
The California State University Sacramento State Dietetic Internship is granted accreditation by the Commission on Dietetics Registration (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association.
