Welcome to Liberal Studies orientation

Orientation is required of all new Liberal Studies majors, regardless if you are a brand new freshman or a transfer student from a local community college or another CSU campus.

The Liberal Studies major is a multidisciplinary major designed for students who intend to become K-8 teachers or special education teachers in California (if you wish to teach one subject in middle or high school, you want to major in the subject you wish to teach and then earn a single subject teaching credential good in middle and high school).

Even if you have been to the Liberal Studies office at Sac State before for advising, as a Liberal Studies major you are required to attend a Liberal Studies orientation session prior to attending your first semester.  The best introduction to a new college, even if you have attended college for several years at the community college or even another CSU, is through an orientation program.

For Liberal Studies majors it is especially important as our requirements are unique and general advising will not be adequate (general education is not separate as with other majors at Sac State).  Participation in orientation will give you a head start on your program and on a successful career at Sac State. Presentations by Liberal Studies advisors will cover the specific curricular requirements of the major, explanations about academic and administrative requirements and registration procedures. Not only will general information be provided about the University, but this will be the only way to receive a specific and precise evaluation of the transcripts of your previous work - each attendee will receive an individual advising form based on your past/current course work (if transcripts are sent to the Liberal Studies office prior to orientation-we do not have access to what you sent Admissions) and by the end of your orientation day you will know exactly what you need in order to complete your BA in Liberal Studies.   This is absolutely vital if you are to know what courses you have completed and what courses you need to register for beginning in the upcoming semester. In addition, a brief introduction to the CSUS Multiple Subject Teaching Credential Program will take place.
